2010 AARES Conference

The largest ever Annual Conference of the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre in February. More than 400 economists from Australia and many other countries discussed key local and global issues of concern to government and the agricultural and natural resource management sectors.

Key issues covered in the conference and workshops included emerging challenges in climate change, government policy in water, international agricultural trade, the future of the wine industry, globalization of supermarkets, the rise of corporate farming, landscape management, the management of marine resources, and agriculture and global economic development.

Media interest was unprecedented including a front page story in The Advertiser, articles in The Australian, The Age, and ABC Rural News and radio interviews on Radio National Late Night Live, Radio Australia Connect Asia, and National Community Radio The Wire.
