2009 Fulbright Symposium:
"The US-Australia Free Trade Agreement: the last 5 years, the next 5 years"
Canberra, 24-25 August, 2009
The 2009 Fulbright Symposium is titled "The US-Australia Free Trade Agreement: the last 5 years, the next 5 years". The symposium will reassess the impact of the AUSFTA across a range of policy areas, as well as look at the changes to the economic and political landscape since the signing of the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) and how these changes will effect the future of trade policy and trade relations between Australia, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Symposium will include a session dedicated specifically to Agriculture and Quarantine. Speakers in this session include Mr Peter Gallagher, a leading trade and public policy analyst and Mr Paul Morris from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Mr Geoff Budd from the Grains Research and Development Corporation and and Mr Tony Battagelne from the Winemakers Federation of Australia will provide expert commentary.
The Fulbright Symposium is an annual event supported by the Fulbright Commission, which aims 'to publicly demonstrate the Fulbright Commission's mission of "promoting mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and Australia through educational and cultural exchange' (to quote their material).
